Old Man Mountain Elkhorn Rack

The OMM Elkhorn is a new kind of rack, and we're big fans of its versatility. It's front-and-rear compatible, fits any bike, and has a load capacity of 25 pounds - enough for all but the most grueling desert water carries. Reliable thru-axle mounting keeps you from getting stranded from a sheared-off bolt, and triple-pack mounts on the side allow for mounting water bottles or Flip bags such as our Buckskin Mini Panniers.

At 652 grams, the Elkhorn is lighter than the vast majority of racks out there. So it's the perfect step up for those who need to carry a bit more weight or volume than a seat bag can provide, but who don't need a traditional pannier setup.

The Elkhorn comes in two heights - short and tall:

• The Short fits tires up to 27.5 x 2.8″ or 700c x 50mm. The Short can also be used for non-axle mounting on some frames.
  The Tall is for maximum mud clearance and fits tires up to 29 x 3.25″.

Axle Mounting

Axle mounting requires a Fit Kit in addition to the rack. To find the right fit kit for your bike, click here to check out OMM's Fit Calculator. For UDH frames, Boost axles (148x12) require SET826, and 142x12mm axles require SET813.

If your bike has eyelets for a rack, then a thru-axle Fit Kit is not strictly needed. But we like the peace of mind that comes from an axle-mounted rack. Instead of your load being supported by an M5 bolt, the rack rests directly on one of the strongest parts of your bike.

Pannier Compatibility

The Elkhorn can use our Buckskin Mini Panniers, but it is NOT intended for use with traditional panniers. If you need the capacity of traditional panniers, we recommend one of OMMs other racks. You can check them out along with some very cool lightweight panniers at San Util Designs - if we made panniers, we'd make something like theirs. Simple and light, but super durable and stable.
